I come from a long line of family caregivers.

My grandmother Rosetta, helped take care of her grandmother Gertrude and her parents Bert and Lyla.

My great grandfather Bert also took care of his uncle Coswell who lived into his 90’s.

When my grandmother was failing, it was my mother Barb, and sister who looked after her until her passing.

And it was my sister who took care of our mother who passed away from cancer.

But the caregiving not only helped family members who were leaving us, it also helped to keep others with us longer.

When my mom’s sister Mary was diagnosed with a potentially deadly disease the doctors told her she didn’t have much time left. But my mother wouldn’t accept that diagnosis. She took Aunt Mary into her home and nursed her back to health. That special care gave her nearly 30 more years of life. The doctors couldn’t explain her recovery, but we all knew it came from love and faith.

And that is the type of devotion you can expect from Lewis Legacy Initiatives.

I am so proud to be part of this organization as it works to bring much needed help to countless families.
